Five Steps to Financial Aid
Apply for Admission
Start by applying to Batten University. Once your application and credentials are received, you're automatically evaluated for a merit-based scholarship — there's no separate scholarship application.
Complete the FAFSA
File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as it opens in October. This is how we determine your eligibility for need-based grants, federal and state aid, loans, and work-study.
Be sure to include Batten University's school code so we receive your results.

Respond to Any Requests
If we need additional documents or information, we'll reach out by email. Respond as promptly as you can — delays in submitting requested items can hold up or reduce your award.
Review Your Award Letter
Once we have everything we need, you'll receive a financial aid award notification. This will show you exactly what you've been offered: merit-based scholarships, need-based grants, federal and state aid, loans, and any work eligibility. Prospective students receive their award in time to compare schools and make an informed decision.
Accept Your Awards
Log into the Financial Aid Self Service (FASS) portal in MyBeacon to accept or decline each component of your package. Grant funding is limited, so accepting promptly gives you the best chance of receiving your full award.
First-time loan borrowers: complete Entrance Counseling and sign your Master Promissory Note at studentaid.gov before funds can be disbursed.
Good to Know
- Batten University scholarships and grants are applied toward tuition only. Your statement will show finalized aid as pending until after the start of classes.
- You must pay the difference between your financial aid and your total bill by the posted deadline to avoid late fees or canceled registration.
- Students who have accepted their aid in FASS and completed all required documents (including Loan Counseling and Master Promissory Note) will have awards disbursed to their accounts during the second week of classes.
- You must reapply for financial aid each academic year by filing a new FAFSA.
Summer Financial Aid
Summer financial aid awarding begins in April. Aid is offered based on your enrollment status — you must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours to qualify for Direct Federal Subsidized or Unsubsidized Loans, or Direct Federal PLUS Loans. A valid FAFSA must be on file.
Many students attending part-time or who have changed grade levels still have remaining eligibility. If you don't meet the criteria for federal aid, you may qualify for private education loan financing.
