Army ROTC

The Marlin Company · ODU Monarch Battalion

Formalized on campus in 1998, the Marlin Company operates as part of Old Dominion University's Monarch Battalion. Through elective courses and field training, students develop leadership, communication, and strategic skills. Graduates are commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the U.S. Army — Active Duty, Reserve, or National Guard.

Navy ROTC

Hampton Roads Naval ROTC Consortium

Through the Hampton Roads NROTC — one of the nation's largest units — Batten students complete Naval Science coursework alongside their academic major while participating in physical training and leadership development. The region's proximity to Naval Station Norfolk, NAS Oceana, Little Creek Amphibious Base, and East Coast SEAL Teams provides unparalleled training access.

Batten ROTC Grant: In addition to military scholarships and stipends, Batten University ROTC students may receive a University grant of $1,000 applicable to tuition during their freshman and sophomore years.

Navy Preparatory Program

A structured preparatory year for incoming first-year students who show strong leadership potential and motivation to serve, but may benefit from additional academic and physical development before entering the full NROTC program.

What's Covered Tuition, housing, meals, and fees are fully covered by Batten for the preparatory year.

Eligibility Incoming first-year students, ages 17–22, accepted to Batten as full-time students. U.S. citizens or on track to become citizens.

What to Expect Foundational academics in math, science, and English. Physical training, military drills, character development. 2.8 GPA minimum and Navy PFA required.

After the Prep Year Students who meet all requirements are awarded a four-year national NROTC scholarship within the Hampton Roads Consortium.

Applicants must complete the FAFSA and the NPP Application.
