Nominations still being accepted for honorees to Virginia Wesleyan College’s 2012 Athletic Hall of Fame

Do you remember who hit the most home runs, sprinted the fastest or dunked the most when you were at VWC? Don’t miss your chance to honor these all-Americans, record breakers and other extraordinary men and women who have made their mark on VWC athletics.
During the 50th Anniversary year, Virginia Wesleyan will induct the fourth class of the recently established Athletic Hall of Fame, which honors those whose outstanding athletic achievements, service or significant contributions have had a lasting effect on the College's intercollegiate athletic program.
Nominations for the Athletic Hall of Fame are being accepted through August 31, 2011. Student athletes are eligible for nomination five years after they have graduated from the College. Marlin teams, coaches and friends of athletics may also be nominated. More information about the selection criteria and nomination process is available at www.vwu.edu/AHOFnomination.
Last year, seven members were inducted into the third class of the Athletic Hall of Fame: Timothy R. Albert '77 – Baseball (1973-77); Thomas A. Lewis III '98 – Men's Lacrosse (1995-98); Tassos J. Paphites '79 – Men's Basketball, Men's Soccer and Men's Tennis (1975-79); Kimberly Kumpf Robbins '94 – Women's Basketball, Women's Soccer and Softball (1990-94); Monica L. Saltarelli '97 – Field Hockey and Softball (1993-97); Andrew C. Walker '90 – Men's Soccer (1986-90); and Welze O. Young (deceased) – long-time supporter and athletic volunteer.
The 2012 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon will be held on February 11, 2012. The title sponsor of this year’s festivities is the Virginia Beach Schools Federal Credit Union.
