Whether you're choosing a major, searching for an internship, or preparing for your first job, we're here to support you every step of the way.
From résumé reviews and interview preparation to career planning and networking opportunities, our services are free and available to all current students and alumni.

Through individualized coaching, career education, employer partnerships, and experiential learning opportunities, we help you build the skills, confidence, and connections to achieve your goals.
Career Coaching
One-on-one sessions with Career Development staff to explore career options, develop your plan, and prepare for the job market.
Workshops & Events
Career readiness workshops on resumes, LinkedIn, interviewing, and career exploration — plus an annual graduate school fair, education fair, and two career and internship fairs.
Internship Support
Help identifying, applying for, and securing internships — including credit-bearing options and competitive national programs.
Professional Resources
Access to career exploration tools, resume templates, interview prep resources, and job platforms like Handshake and MCode.
Employer Connections
Staff work directly with employers to build relationships that open doors for Batten students — through on-campus recruiting, panels, and hiring partnerships.
Graduate School Advising
Support with application timelines, entrance exam prep, personal statements, and school selection — for students planning to continue their education after Batten.
Professional Development Academy
The Work & Learn Program combines an on-campus work position with academic credits and a $3,000 annual tuition credit — giving students hands-on professional experience while helping cover the cost of their education.
- On-campus, work-based learning position
- $3,000 scholarship (tuition credit) per year
- 2 academic credits per course: INST 103 Professional Preparation and INST 105 Effective Learning Strategies
- Approved mentoring, internship, or work-based learning requirement in the 3rd and 4th year

NATO Innovation Hub
A competitive partnership with NATO-ACT in Norfolk. Open to all majors — especially welcoming students in CS, art, communication, political science, international studies, and more.
Washington Internship Institute
Full-semester or summer internships in Washington, D.C. Earn Batten credits while gaining experience at the center of policy, media, law, and public affairs.
