Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College Concert Series presents The Divine Art, with Kumar Das, table, and Snehasish Mozumder, mandolin, at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26 in the Hofheimer Theatre, located in the Fine Arts building.
The 4,000 year-old tradition of Hindu classical music is designed to raise the inner being to divine peacefulness and bliss. The fundamentals include the melodic framework known as the Raga, and the element of time (or rhythm) known as the Tala. Together, they are considered a creation of the Hindu Holy Trinity.
Das serves as instructor in world music at the University of Bridgeport, and Mozumder is considered one of the foremost performers of Hindu mandolin in the world.
Admission to this concert is $12 for adults; $6 for seniors/military/VWC alumni; and free to Virginia Wesleyan students, faculty and staff. Advance reservations are strongly recommended and may be made by calling 757.455.2101 or e-mailing concerts@vwu.edu.
