From Alumna to Financial Aid Director

Teresa Rhyne ’92 is passionate about helping students find ways to meet their college costs.

altNobody knows Virginia Wesleyan College better than Teresa Rhyne ’92, who was a student and has been an employee in the College’s Business Office for the past 18 years. On June 11, 2010, she assumed the position as Director of Financial Aid.

Rhyne, who began her career working part-time as an accounts receivable clerk, will be responsible for overseeing financial aid programs, assisting students in the application process and working with students and parents to award financial aid packages.  During her tenure at the College, Rhyne has served as Accounting Manager and Director of Accounting/Budget.

“My passion is helping students find ways to meet their college costs,” said Rhyne.  “Having worked in the Business Office, I’m used to taking money on behalf of the organization and now I’m giving money for the benefit of students – it’s a nice change.”

Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Enrollment Services David Buckingham said he is confident in Rhyne’s new role at the College.  “Teresa is a student-centered colleague with terrific customer service skills,” he said. “She will provide great direction in the scholarship allocation and financial aid processing for our students.”95% of students receive financial aid at Virginia Wesleyan College.

Rhyne earned her degree in Business with an emphasis in Accounting from Virginia Wesleyan.  She resides in Chesapeake with her husband, Scott, and their two daughters, Rebekah, 13, and Amanda, 9.

In her spare time, she enjoys scrapbooking and participating in activities with her kids.  She is Treasurer of the Deep Creek Central Elementary PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) and the Chesapeake Council PTA.
