In Search of Alumni Art

VWC seeking submissions for the College's 50th Anniversary Alumni Art Exhibition

the_arts40Calling all creative Marlins! As part of a year of 50th anniversary celebrations, the College will be showcasing visual art created by some of Virginia Wesleyan's many talented alumni. Are you among them? We'd love to hear from you. Exhibit entry guidelines and details are included below.

Virginia Wesleyan College 50th Anniversary Alumni Art Exhibition

August 26-November 3, 2011
Artists Reception: September 8, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Location: The Neil Britton Art Gallery in the Hofheimer Library at Virginia Wesleyan College

Eligibility: All Virginia Wesleyan alumni are eligible and will have at least one work selected. Please provide three entries if possible. All media, styles, techniques and subject matter are welcome.

Entry Requirements: Two-dimensional entries must be framed and ready for hanging with hook eyes and wire. Frames, mats and glass or plexiglass should be clean and presented in a professional manner. White or off-white mats are suggested. Neither saw-tooth hangers nor wet paint will be accepted. Works must remain for the duration of the show.

Submissions: Artists may submit one digital image each for up to three individual works via email to jrudel@vwu.edu. Files should be in jpeg format. For alternate arrangements, if necessary call curator John Rudel at 757.455.3257.

Delivery and pick-up of artwork: Selected, hand-delivered artworks will be accepted at the Neil Britton Art Gallery in the Hofheimer Library at Virginia Wesleyan College on August 22 and August 23. Shipped works must arrive at the campus no later than Tuesday, August 23. Work will not be accepted after August 23. Shipped works must be in reusable containers and must be accompanied by return shipping fees. Identification labels must be affixed to the back of the work with tape or other removable method. Each piece should also have a permanent identification on the back with the artist’s name and title of the piece. Works selected should be picked up by November 4.

Sales Commission: No commission is required by the Neil Britton Art Gallery. The sale price can include a 30 percent donation to VWC. Works may be “NSF,” not for sale.

Insurance: Artworks will be insured for the sales price.

Resumes & Artist Statements: Participating artists are requested to provide a resume and brief artist’s statement about their entries preferably in a Word attachment via email to John Rudel: jrudel@vwu.edu. These materials can also be delivered in person along with the artwork.
