The premier exhibition,
Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – The new Neil Britton Art Gallery, located in the Hofheimer Library on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan College, opens its first full year of exhibitions with the premier exhibition of contemporary art “Clever Treason,” on display August 3 – September 25. An opening reception will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27 in the Gallery.
“Clever Treason” features new work from artists Miriam Ewers and Tim DeVoe. Ewers and DeVoe are both faculty members at America’s top ranked Sculpture Program at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts in Richmond, Va.
Ewers’ work explores the confluence between body and architecture through large-scale woodblock prints. Her works have been shown nationally at ADA Gallery, Richmond, Va.; Kim Foster Galley, New York, N.Y.; Monte Vista Gallery, Los Angles, Calif.; and The Washington Project for the Arts\Corcoran Flashpoint Gallery, Washington, D.C.
Tim DeVoe’s “Scaffold,” a miniature cellular construction, multiplies until the work towers overhead. Recent exhibitions of DeVoe’s work have been held at Carroll Square Gallery, Washington D.C.; the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, Virginia Beach, Va.; Kim Foster Gallery, New York, N.Y.; and Keith Talent Gallery, London, England.
The opening reception is free and open to the public. This event is sponsored by the Art Department at Virginia Wesleyan College.
