Promising Presenters
For sixth year, Wesleyan students present their work at Undergraduate Research Symposium, April 26-29

From “Beauty and the Fashion Model” to “Epizoic Cyanobacteria,” topics at this year’s Undergraduate Research Symposium at Virginia Wesleyan are indicative of a wide range of student interests and areas of study.
The Symposium takes place takes place April 26-29, and more than 30 students are prepared to present their cumulative research projects to faculty and peers from the disciplines of humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and mathematics.
Dr. Maynard Schaus, Associate Professor of Biology, coordinated the event, which will feature dozens of spoken and illustrated presentations over the course of the week.
"This has been an outstanding year for student researchers at VWC, and this symposium offers a great opportunity to showcase their varied scholarly activities," said Dr. Schaus.
Rebecca Driscoll ’11, president of Phi Alpha Theta and recent recipient of Best Paper in the undergraduate world history category, will also be presenting at the Symposium.
“I’m really looking forward to participating in the symposium. I participated last year and I really enjoyed the opportunity to share my research.” Driscoll took first place in the social sciences category at last year’s symposium. “I hope that this year will be more of the same.”
Driscoll will be attending the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to earn a Master of Library and Information Studies.
Ksera Dyette ’11, president of the Philosophical Society, will be presenting for the first time this year.
“I was chastised sufficiently by a professor for not presenting last year so I decided to do it this year.”
Dyette is a triple major and will be pursuing a graduate degree in clinical psychology at Widener University.
The Symposium will take place in the Pearce Hospitality Suite. Come out and support your VWC scholars as they present the fruits of their labor.
