Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – Virginia Wesleyan College’s annual Spring Honors Convocation, an event that celebrates students for their academic and leadership achievement, was held in the Jane P. Batten Student Center on Friday, April 30.
The event recognized individual departmental award recipients, students on the Academic Dean's List, members of Honor Societies, Student Executive Council and Senators, and the Class of 2010. Immediately following Honors Convocation, the 4th annual Academic Fair was held, which highlighted more than 50 student-faculty research projects.
During the event, College President Dr. Billy Greer announced Dr. Phil Rock, associate professor of biology, as the winner of the fourth annual President’s Environmental Challenge Grant. Rock will receive funding to create a Worm Farm, which will provide improved soils for flower beds across campus. A total of 12 proposals were submitted, including three from students, three from faculty members and four from staff members. The $2,500 grant is just one piece of an overall campus sustainability initiative.
