Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – Virginia Wesleyan College scholar-athletes who were named to the Dean's List for the fall 2009 semester will be honored at the State Farm/Virginia Wesleyan College Scholar-Athlete Recognition during halftime of the women’s basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 20, in the Convocation Center of the Jane P. Batten Student Center. Tipoff is at 4 p.m. Scholar athletes are from the following teams: Women’s and Men’s Soccer, Field Hockey, Women’s and Men’s Lacrosse, Softball, Women’s Basketball, Women’s Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Cheerleading, Baseball, Cross Country and Track & Field
A total of 53 scholar athletes, representing 12 sports, will be recognized for their hard work in the classroom and with their teams. These students are members of at least one NCAA Division III athletic team at Virginia Wesleyan and have a Grade Point Average of at least 3.5. During the event, students will receive a certificate from the College signed by President Billy Greer, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Kenneth R. Perry Dean of the College Dr. Timothy O’Rourke and a State Farm® representative.

Virginia Wesleyan boasts 19 intercollegiate sports and competes in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, the second largest NCAA Division III conference in the country. In 2005, the College created the Faculty Team Advisers Program, which matches a faculty or staff member to each sport. Faculty and staff advisers provide advice, assistance and resources for student athletes as they strive to maintain balance during their college careers.
