Student receives Competitive Journalism Scholarship
Heather Templeton ’10 is the fourth recipient of the Anges Cooke Scholarship from The Virginia Press Women.
Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – Virginia Wesleyan College senior Heather Templeton from Gloucester, Va., is the recipient of the competitive Agnes Cooke Scholarship by the Virginia Press Women.
This annual scholarship is given to deserving college students interested in planning a career in journalism, photo journalism, public relations or another related communications field.
Templeton, a double major in communications/journalism and religious studies, has been a dedicated journalist to The Marlin Chronicle, the student newspaper for Virginia Wesleyan. She was previously a news editor, features editor and was selected as the editor in chief for the 2009-2010 academic year. Her career goal is to combine her journalism skills and religious theology background to create publications strictly for youth in a Christian setting.
The Virginia Press Women Inc. was founded in 1958 and incorporated in 1973. It is affiliated with the National Federation of Press Women. Both organizations promote the highest ethical standards, foster exchanges of journalistic ideas and experiences, offer continuing education opportunities to members and serve the public's right-to-know.
Templeton is the fourth Virginia Wesleyan student to receive the Agnes Cooke Scholarship from the Virginia Press Women.
