Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. - Virginia Wesleyan College President Billy Greer has announced the appointment of Patricia Patten as Dean of Admissions, effective September 1, 2010.
According to Greer, “Patty Patten is a terrific find for Virginia Wesleyan College. Her ability to get the job done when it comes to building strong incoming classes is legendary. She will bring energy, know-how, and a passion for her profession and I look forward to working with her.”
Ms. Patten brings a wealth of experience and a proven successful track record in the field of higher education admissions. She has most recently served as Dean of Admissions for Christopher Newport University, where she led the admissions team to a 600 percent increase in freshman applications, more than doubling the size of the freshman class and increasing the average freshman SAT score by 260 points. Ms. Patten’s extensive experience in enrollment management also includes key roles and significant accomplishments at Old Dominion University, the University of West Florida, and Ohio University. In addition, she has experience in alumni relations, advancement/development, international student advising, and has served as adjunct faculty at Ohio University. She holds B.A. and Master of Arts degrees in German Language and Literature from Ohio University and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Ms. Patten speaks fluent German and conversational Spanish, and has studied abroad in Salzburg, Austria. She has also served as an assistant instructor in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Ms. Patten said she is looking forward to her new role at Virginia Wesleyan. "I am just so proud and excited to become part of the "Marlin Team" at Virginia Wesleyan College. Ms. Patten will report to Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Enrollment Services, David Buckingham, who says “Patty’s successful experience and remarkable accomplishments at other institutions of higher education combined with her love and understanding of the liberal arts make her the ideal person for this position. I have no doubt that she will be a catalyst for positive change for our admissions efforts and a great asset to our College.”
