Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. – Virginia Wesleyan College junior Dennen Miner has been selected to represent the College on a statewide advisory council focusing on connecting private college students with top Virginia banks and corporations for internship and employment opportunities.
Miner, an economics major from Virginia Beach, Va., is serving on the Student Advisory Council for Career 15, the innovative job placement network for students enrolled at the 15 private colleges and universities which are members of the statewide consortium supported by the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges (VFIC). Each institution is represented by one student on the Council -- students were selected on the basis of academic achievement and leadership on campus.
Launched in 2008, Career 15 is a cost-efficient and time-efficient way to connect Virginia’s private college students with potential employers. Students and companies connect through postings on a central Web site and through regional events that bring student and employers face-to-face. Currently, more than 70 corporations are participating in Career 15.
On this Council, students provide advice to the staff of Career 15, and promote the program on their campuses, with the goal of increasing student participation in the placement program. In this on-campus work, Miner works closely with Lisa Fentress, director of career services.
