During the chartering banquet, Virginia Wesleyan’s 22 members of Iota Beta will receive awards and listen to speakers, including campus officials and National representatives from their fraternity. National President Joseph Gilman will present the men with their official Sigma Nu charter.
"The Sigma Nu Iota Beta Chapter has been greatly supported by the Virginia Wesleyan community and we look forward to serving the campus further into the future,” said Commander of Sigma Nu J.R. Ennis ’10 from Milford, Del. “The gentlemen feel very honored and grateful for this longtime awaited recognition from The Sigma Nu Headquarters."
Since 2005, alumni of the chapter have been working with students on campus to create the Iota Beta local Fraternity. In October, students submitted a 400-page petition to the High Council of Sigma Nu for official review. The document contained 17 sections which included: colony management, recruitment, candidate education, alumni, finances, social program, scholarship, fraternity organization and leadership, membership education, campus leadership, interfraternity activities, community service/philanthropy, risk reduction, parent relations, university relations and communications.
“The Sigma Nu men have been motivated and determined and should be very proud of this accomplishment,” said Director of Greek Life Kristen Whalen. “This is a historical event for our campus and the Greek System will be stronger with the addition of this chapter.”
