Disability Support Services

Batten University is committed to providing equal access to all students. The Disability Services Office verifies documentation, determines eligibility, and arranges appropriate academic accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Accommodations don't happen automatically — you need to register with the Disability Services Office and activate your accommodations each semester. Here's exactly how that works.

How to Register for Accommodations

Self-Disclosure

Contact the Disability Services Office to notify us that you have a disability and schedule an initial meeting to request academic accommodations. This is the first step — nothing else can happen until you reach out.

Intake Form and Documentation

Complete the Disability Services Intake Form and submit it to our office along with documentation of your disability. Your documentation should describe your disability and explain how it currently impacts your academic performance. Both the form and documentation can be submitted during your first meeting.

Intake Interview

Meet with a Disability Services Specialist for an intake interview to discuss which accommodations would best support your needs. Approved reasonable accommodations are determined by both your documentation and your own input — you're part of that conversation.

Activate Your Accommodations

Once approved, you'll receive two copies of your Authorized Accommodations Form for each class — one for you, one for your professor. Here's what happens with each:

1
  • Disability Staff signs
  • Student signs
  • Professor signs
→ Professor keeps this copy
2
  • Disability Staff signs
  • Student signs
→ You return this to the Disability Services Office

At the start of each semester, take a few minutes to meet with each of your instructors — after class or during office hours — to discuss how your accommodations will be arranged for that course. Don't wait until the first exam to have that conversation.

Renew Each Semester

Accommodations don't automatically carry over. Each semester you'll need to request updated copies of your Authorized Accommodations Form by emailing the Disability Services Office. Accommodations can also be updated at any time if your needs change — just reach out.

Email DisabilityServices@batten.edu at the start of each semester to request your updated forms. Do it early — before classes get busy.
