D. Henry Watts School of Professional Studies
Individualized Studies
The Individualized Studies major is for students who have identified a well-defined area of inquiry that doesn't fit neatly into any of Batten University's established programs — and who have the initiative and imagination to build their own academic path around it.
Eligible students (at least 32 credit hours completed, 2.7 GPA minimum, 16 hours in residence) form a three-person faculty advisory board, then develop a 40–48 hour plan of study spanning at least two departments, with at least 20 hours at the 300/400 level and a senior thesis or capstone project. The proposal must be submitted to the Provost's office before the student has completed 64 semester hours — April 15 for spring, November 15 for fall.
If approved, the major appears on the transcript as "Individualized Studies." Application forms are available in the Registrar's Office.
