Before You Register
- Search for courses. Log in to WebAdvisor and click Search for Courses. Choose the term, then search by subject, type, keyword, instructor, and so on.
- Build a tentative schedule of courses appropriate to your plan of study before meeting with your advisor.
- Meet with your advisor. Your advisor will give electronic approval for you to register. You can confirm approval has been granted by logging into WebAdvisor and clicking Personal Registration Information. Contact your advisor if approval has not been given.
- Clear any holds. During the week before registration, check for holds that could prevent registration — log in to WebAdvisor and click Student Holds.
- Confirm your registration day and time, which will be listed in WebAdvisor on or before the first day of advising weeks.
It's My Time to Register
- Log in to WebAdvisor. Navigate using only the menus, tabs, and WebAdvisor buttons — the browser back button causes problems.
- Click the Students button and locate the registration menu. Your options include:
- Express Registration — use this if you know the exact course and section. Enter the course number and two-digit section (e.g. ENG 105-01).
- Batten University — Search for Sections / Consent — search by General Studies type or department, or use when a course requires instructor consent.
- Search/Register for Sections (recommended) — search for and register for courses in one step.
- Manage Sections with Drop — make all add/drop changes after your schedule is created.
- Save your registration.
- View and print your schedule under My Class Schedule.
- Log off WebAdvisor before closing your browser.
Adding and Dropping Courses
You may add or drop courses without additional advisor approval through the end of the first week of classes (add/drop week). Your advisor's electronic approval granted at registration covers the fall or spring semester and summer session.
Special Registrations
The following must be processed in the Office of the Registrar using a Course Selection Form, available from the Registrar's Office or your advisor:
- Overload permission for a full course
- Courses needing professor consent when prerequisites have not been met
- Pass/fail courses (additional form required)
- Audit courses (additional form required)
- Cross-registered courses (additional form required)
- Guided study, independent research, and tutorials — form available on the Student Forms page
ROTC Registration
Students interested in earning an Army commission may take ROTC classes at Old Dominion University while pursuing a degree at Batten University through the Virginia Tidewater Consortium. For more information, see the ROTC page or visit the ODU Army ROTC website. Students taking an ROTC class will need to complete a Virginia Tidewater Consortium Student Cross-Registration Form, available from the Registrar's Office.
