Apply to Be an RAThe Resident Assistant is a part-time para-professional staff member of the Office of Residence Life who lives in an assigned residence hall. Directly supervised by a Village Coordinator, RAs keep their supervisor informed of activities, concerns, and needs within the community. The RA gets to know residents and the larger residential community to build an engaged, safe, and inclusive environment for academic success and personal growth.

What Do RAs Do?
Academics come first. RAs make time to study and pursue their own academic interests.
RAs foster a community environment conducive to living, learning, and personal development by organizing monthly social and educational programs.
RAs actively listen, advise, and assist students with concerns or conflict, modeling appropriate behavior for residents.
RAs help students understand the rules and regulations of the University and enforce campus policies.
RAs become familiar with campus and community resources in order to make referrals and provide information to students.
Time Commitment
- General availability to residents
- Pre-scheduled on-duty responsibilities in assigned area
- Fall pre-semester training sessions (approx. 7–8 days in August)
- Spring pre-semester training sessions (approx. 1 day in January)
- January Term participation, unless otherwise exempt
- Academic year contract covering Fall and Spring semesters
- Plan and host monthly social and educational programs
- Assist with hall openings and closings, move-in, and campus-wide events
- Conduct health and safety inspections
- Attend weekly staff meetings and biweekly 1:1 meetings with Village Coordinator
Eligibility Requirements
- Must have, and maintain, a 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Must be a full-time, enrolled undergraduate student
- Must abide by all Batten University campus policies

* Note on Decision & Placement Notifications: You will be notified of whether you are offered an RA position, an alternate position, or if you are not being offered the role at this time. If offered, you will be given a deadline to accept. Placements are not guaranteed based on preference alone, but we take into consideration where an RA feels they would best serve the community. Placements may adjust based on later need or availability.
