Medical Emergencies

In the event of a minor or major medical emergency, call Campus Security at 757.233.8888. Do not administer first aid unless you are trained to do so.

Sexual Assault

If the victim needs immediate medical attention, call Campus Security at 757.233.8888. Several support options are available both on campus and in the community.

Psychological Emergencies

Contact the Director of Counseling and Student Health at 757.455.3131.

Communicable Diseases

Contact Campus Security at 757.233.8888.

Fire Emergencies

In the event of a fire, call Campus Security immediately at 757.233.8888.

Weather Emergencies

Refer to the University’s website or the inclement weather hotline at 757.904.1991. Closing information will also be available on local television and radio stations. In extreme situations, resident students may be required to evacuate campus.

Utility Failure

In the event of a major utility failure, immediately notify Campus Security at 757.233.8888.

Suspicious Package & Hazardous Materials

Refer to the Emergency Operations Plan for detailed procedures regarding suspicious packages and hazardous materials.

Continuity of Operations

Continuity of Operations (COOP) ensures the University can provide vital services, maintain safety, protect essential equipment, reduce disruption, and minimize damage and losses during an emergency. COOP also identifies relocation sites in advance and assists with an orderly recovery afterward.

Unforeseen Life-Threatening Emergencies

An Unforeseen Life-Threatening Emergency is a crisis situation where the actions of an individual or group may result in serious injury or death to members of the campus community. Examples include gunfire, bomb threats, and hostage situations. This does not include health concerns or other non-urgent matters that can be managed without disrupting the campus community.

All Unforeseen Life-Threatening Emergencies will require the response of the Virginia Beach Police Department. The University’s primary concern in these situations is the safety and communication of its campus community.
