Federal & State Aid
The following federal and state programs provide grant funding to eligible students. Grants are gift aid — they do not need to be repaid. Eligibility is determined by the information you provide on your FAFSA.
Federal Pell Grant
Need-based grant funded by the federal government. The amount is determined by a government formula based on your FAFSA information.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
Need-based grant funded by the federal government. Awards are based on calculated need and the availability of funds. Priority is given to Pell Grant recipients.
TEACH Grant
Awards up to $4,000 per academic year (maximum $16,000 total) for students committed to teaching in high-need fields. Batten University only offers TEACH Grants to students accepted into the Education Program.
- Must be a declared Education major with a 3.25 cumulative GPA
- Must pass the Praxis I Exam
- Must complete TEACH Grant Counseling and the Agreement to Serve at teach-ats.ed.gov
- Requires four years of full-time teaching in a high-need field at a school serving low-income students within eight years of graduation
Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG)
State-funded grant for Virginia residents attending private colleges. Requires completion of the VTAG application by September 15 and domiciliary residence in Virginia. Awards are subject to state funding levels.
Virginia Two-Year Transfer Grant
For transfer students with an associate degree, a 3.0 GPA, and an EFC of $12,000 or less. Awards $1,000 per year, with an additional $1,000 available for students in certain majors. Contact the Financial Aid Office to confirm eligibility.
