Financial Aid Timeline
A month-by-month guide to help you stay on track with financial aid at Batten University. Dates apply to the upcoming academic year unless otherwise noted. School code: 003767.
The FAFSA opens. This is the most important step in the financial aid process.
- Create your FSA ID at studentaid.gov — students and parents each need their own
- Complete and submit the FAFSA with Batten's school code: 003767
- Filing earns you the $1,000 FAFSA Grant — submit by the March 1 priority deadline for best funding
- Begin searching for outside scholarships
You can file the FAFSA before being admitted — and should.
- Continue researching and applying for outside scholarships
- Review your processed FAFSA submission summary and correct any errors at studentaid.gov
Returning Military Submit your Spring and/or January Term schedule to the VA School Certifying Official in Godwin Hall.
- Check for new outside scholarship deadlines
Returning Check your Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status in the Financial Aid Self Service portal.
FAFSA priority deadline. Check the Financial Aid Self Service portal:
- Review and accept or decline your financial aid awards
- Check Missing Documents for any required forms
- First-time loan borrowers: complete Entrance Counseling and sign your Master Promissory Note
New Students Award notifications are sent once you're admitted and your FAFSA has been received.
Returning You'll be notified via your Batten email when your package is ready to view.
Summer financial aid awarding begins.
Returning Military Submit your Summer and/or Fall schedule to the VA School Certifying Official in Godwin Hall. Review your remaining months of benefits.
Returning Review your SAP status and check the Financial Aid Self Service portal:
- Accept or decline awards
- Complete Entrance Counseling and MPN if needed
- Submit any missing documents
- Apply for a Direct Parent PLUS Loan or private education loan to cover any remaining balance
- Set up a payment plan with the Office of Finance if needed
Tuition payments are due at the end of the month.
- Check the Financial Aid Self Service portal for any new or updated awards
- Ensure Entrance Counseling and MPN are complete
New Students Virginia residents: submit your Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG) application by July 31. Check Missing Documents in the portal for the application link.
Final check before classes begin:
- Confirm your student account balance has been satisfied
- Accept or decline all remaining awards in the portal
- Submit any outstanding documents
- Apply for a PLUS or private loan if you still have a balance
- Set up a payment plan with the Office of Finance if needed
- Notify the Financial Aid Office of any outside scholarships received
Financial Aid credits are released for use in the University Store 10 days before the semester starts. Awards are finalized and disbursed to your student account during the second week of classes.
Returning Virginia residents: VTAG application deadline. Submit your Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant application to the Financial Aid Office.
