Batten Grants & Scholarships

Scholarship Funding for First-Year Students and Transfers

Batten University offers academic scholarships to all admitted first-year and transfer students. Once you've submitted your application and credentials, our Enrollment Counselors will evaluate your submission and include a scholarship offer with your acceptance letter.

First-year scholarships are renewable for a total of eight semesters. Transfer scholarships are renewable until graduation requirements are met but will not exceed eight semesters. All scholarships are subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Batten Honors College Scholarships

Twenty selected students per year are awarded full-tuition scholarships, and another 20 receive nearly three-quarters tuition scholarships. Honors College scholars may also be eligible for need-based financial aid to cover remaining tuition, room, and board costs.

Batten University Global Scholarship

International students who enroll in the traditional day program to complete a bachelor's degree receive a merit-based scholarship valued at a minimum of $21,000 per year.

Batten University Coastal Advantage Scholarship

The Coastal Advantage Scholarship is offered to accepted Virginia residents from families with household incomes under $100,000. Coastal Advantage covers all but $2,500 of tuition for eligible first-year students. To cover the remaining $2,500, students can participate in the Work & Learn Program or explore other financial aid options.

Eligibility is renewable until graduation, provided the student maintains good academic standing and meets the program's criteria.

Need-Based Grants

Requires completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students with demonstrated need who are enrolled full-time are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

$1,000 Visit Grant

Receive a $1,000 Visit Grant when you schedule a virtual or in-person visit with the Enrollment Office. Schedule a Visit

Future Marlin Grant

Students referred by alumni who decide to enroll receive a $1,000 annual grant applicable to tuition. The award is renewable for up to four years, assuming satisfactory academic progress toward their degree.

Hampton Roads College Success Scholarship

Established in partnership with Tidewater Community College, this scholarship awards $10,000 per academic year. Upon satisfactory academic progress during the first year, the award is renewed for a second year.

Beverly Scholars

Students audition to meet faculty in their areas of interest, demonstrate their talent, and be considered for arts-specific scholarships. Auditions are an opportunity to learn how you can be involved in the arts as part of your Batten University experience.

DeFord Scholars (Virginia Tuition Promise)

Students who declare an interest in teaching upon entering Batten University can receive a scholarship to cover remaining gaps in undergraduate tuition after the VTAG, Pell Grant, and other aid are applied. Students who are not Pell eligible must participate in the Work & Learn Program or pay $2,500 per year toward tuition. Must be a Virginia resident and VTAG recipient.

Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program

Provides funding to recruit and prepare STEM majors and professionals to become K–12 teachers, with a focus on increasing the number of teachers with strong STEM content knowledge in high-need school districts.

Marlins IMPACT Scholarship Program

Provides need-based scholarships for academically talented undergraduates majoring in STEM disciplines, supporting a national effort to increase the number of students graduating in STEM fields and joining the U.S. STEM workforce.

Dollars for United Methodist Scholars

Batten University will match a local United Methodist Church's scholarship of $1,000 offered to a member enrolling as a first-time, full-time student. This match reduces tuition by $2,000. Contact the Financial Aid Office at 757.455.3345 for details.

Minister's Sons and Daughters Grant

Awarded to dependents of ministers who are members of the Virginia United Methodist Conference. Grant and other Batten University funding will cover up to one-half of tuition.

United Methodist Higher Education Foundation

The Foundation awards scholarships to students attending over 100 United Methodist-related institutions. Each year, more than $2 million is distributed to over 1,000 students nationwide.
