About the Program
The Marlin to Marlin Mentoring Program cultivates meaningful relationships between alumni who have completed immersive internships, study away experiences, and/or undergraduate research projects and current students in the planning phases of building their own experiential learning pathway. Mentoring relationships are designed to provide guidance and support, and to foster productive conversations about planning, preparation, and participation in experiential learning.
Program Goals
- Facilitate connections between alumni and current students to support exploration of and participation in experiential learning.
- Provide a forum for open, professional communication that fosters student confidence in pursuing an internship, global engagement, or research experience.
- Allow alumni to reflect on their experiences and share the impact that completing an internship, study away, and/or research experience had on their professional, civic, and personal lives.
- Engage alumni and students in discussion about professional development, navigating life after graduation, and building networks.
- Permit alumni to donate time and service as an investment in the academic development of current students.
Program Benefits
The Marlin to Marlin Mentoring Program offers alumni a meaningful opportunity to engage with current students and help them develop pathways to immersive experiential learning. Current students receive advice from graduates who once navigated the same challenges. The program is designed to build connections, foster discussion, and benefit both alumni and current students.
Become a Marlin Mentor
Alumni from any graduation year are welcome to participate. To become a mentor, complete the Volunteer Form and select “Marlin to Marlin Mentoring Program.” Someone from the Office of Alumni Relations will follow up to discuss next steps.
Become a Marlin Mentee
Any current undergraduate student may participate. Interested students may email any member of the Athenaeum staff to express interest. The Director of Career Development will then make the connection between student and mentor.
