Micro-Credentials at Batten University Global Campus
Micro-Credentials provide lasting and transferable value as part of your education at Batten University. As you participate in conferences, complete workshops, and take courses through Batten University Global Campus, you will be awarded a variety of digital badges that you can include in your digital portfolio, display on social media, and include in job applications.
Anatomy of a Digital Badge
All of our badges adhere to the OpenBadges Standard, the world’s leading format for digital badges — verifiable and portable. All of the information needed to verify your status, the work you did to earn the badge, and where you earned it is embedded directly into the badge’s data.
Micro-Credential Types
Based on the type of event you attend or complete, you will earn a different type of badge.
Event Badge
Earned when you attend an event associated with Batten University Global Campus. These are typically one-day events with no individual test, presentation, or assignment required.
Level I Micro-Credential
Earned upon completion of a multi-day, non-credit bearing workshop. No assessment of individual mastery is required to receive a Level I Micro-Credential.
Level II Micro-Credential
Earned upon completion of a workshop or credit-bearing course through Batten University Global Campus. Individual mastery of the skills developed will be assessed multiple times over the duration of the workshop or course.
Macro-Credential
Awarded after earning a specific set of micro-credentials that together demonstrate a collective body of skills, knowledge, and experience. Once all associated badges have been awarded, the macro-credential is automatically issued.
Achievement Studio
Your Digital Badge Portfolio
As part of earning your first badge, you will be invited to create an Achievement Studio account. Here you can display earned badges, upload samples of related work, sort badges into collections, and share them with current or potential employers to showcase your education and skills.
Earning Micro-Credentials
To earn micro-credentials, register for free workshops through Batten University Global Campus or enroll in no-cost online courses that have micro-credentials associated with them. You can find a full list of available badges and their associated workshops or courses here.
Offering Micro-Credentials
Faculty and workshop facilitators interested in offering a micro-credential in connection with their course or workshop will need to complete a form identifying the course or workshop, associated skills, and assessment methods. This form will be reviewed by the Global Campus Continuing Education Committee. Once approved, the badge will be created and linked to the course.
