Academic Symposium
The Academic Symposium is Batten University's signature celebration of undergraduate scholarship. Held each spring, the event showcases student achievement across research, creative projects, internships, and global engagement — drawing together students, faculty, and staff for a day dedicated to the work students actually do here.
Regular classes are canceled on the day of the Academic Symposium.
Symposium Events
The Academic Symposium includes the following events:
- Premier Speakers Sessions
- Academic Fair Poster Session
- Concurrent Sessions for Various Disciplines
- Batten University/VaMOCA Student Exhibition Response Reception
Premier Speakers & Concurrent Sessions
Nomination Deadline: Approximately three weeks before the symposium date.
- Faculty are invited to nominate outstanding students to serve as Premier Speakers using the nomination form.
- Faculty may also propose a concurrent session using the same form.
Academic Fair Poster Session
If you have a student presenting during the Academic Fair Poster Session, please ensure their information is added to the presenter spreadsheet.
Poster Requirements
- Submission deadline: Approximately one week before the symposium (to allow time for printing)
- Poster size: 24″ × 36″
- Accepted formats: .PDF or .PPT
Submission Instructions
- Upload poster files directly to the Google Drive folder
- Email submissions are not accepted
- Supervising faculty are responsible for uploading files on behalf of their students

Event Participation
The Academic Symposium is a celebration of excellence in academics. We encourage all students to attend — the work on display serves as a powerful reminder of what's possible at Batten, particularly for students in the earlier stages of their academic careers.
