Global Scholars Program
The Global Scholars Program is Batten’s competitive semester study abroad program — open to second, third, and fourth year students. Earn credit toward your major, minor, or general education requirements while living and studying abroad for a full semester.

Eligibility Requirements
- Enrolled at Batten University at time of application
- Minimum 2.75 GPA (some programs require higher)
- No honor code or major conduct violations
- At least second-year standing at departure (some programs require third year)
- Not your last semester at Batten University
- Must return for at least one full semester after completing the program

Semester Partners
Batten University’s Global Scholars Program partners offer semester study abroad in more than 50 countries.
Jane P. Batten & David R. Black School — Lakeland University Japan
One of the few study abroad programs where students can take paid internships of up to 28 hours per week alongside coursework. Classes with local Japanese students and students from other Asian countries. Cultural activities including tea ceremonies.
International Student Exchange Program (ISEP)
Enroll at local universities in cities and villages around the world. Courses available in most disciplines. Applicants rank their choices and are placed according to availability.
Heidelberg University of Education
Study German language, literature, history, and civilization at the Pädagogische Hochschule — a charming university town on the Neckar River, in the footsteps of Goethe.
Irish American Scholars Program
Study at one of four Northern Ireland universities, with courses available in almost every discipline — including student teaching abroad. Live in residence halls with local and international students.
Kansai Gaidai University
Immerse yourself in Asian culture alongside hundreds of international students. Courses in religious studies, gender studies, literature, history, business, and studio art. Spring semester students may also take a short-term internship.
Rikkyo University
A private liberal arts university in central Tokyo offering courses in business, political science, international studies, communication, history, sociology, and more. Live in international dormitories and participate in clubs and cultural activities.
Summer Study Abroad
Students can study abroad during the summer through Batten’s direct-enroll partners, earning credit in a wide array of disciplines — including courses that count toward your major or minor. SHIPP grants are available to help with program fees. Contact Brooke Novkovic to get started.
Florence University of the Arts (FUA)
Live like a local in Florence. Courses in art, business, communication, biology, chemistry, mathematics, sociology, and history. Experiential learning includes community service, regional field trips, and extracurricular activities.
Harlaxton College
Study in an English manor alongside faculty and students from around the world. Courses in British studies, history, mathematics, political science, psychology, education, and English, with unique clubs and sports.
John Cabot University
Wide array of courses in business, communication, political science, English, history, art history, psychology, philosophy, and archeology. Live in dormitories or apartments with American, international, and Italian students.
National Chengchi University (NCCU) International Summer School
Courses in History, Political Science, Economics, Communication, and Mandarin Chinese. Social and cultural field trips including a food tour and a visit with a tea sommelier.
Rikkyo University — Summer
An intensive language and culture program during Summer Session. Earn four Batten credits and take part in numerous field trips and cultural activities.

Financing Study Abroad
Semester study abroad at Batten is more affordable than most students expect. Global Scholars typically pay Batten’s tuition, fees, room, and board — meaning your existing scholarships, loans, and grants (except Work and Learn) can apply.
