About SHIPP

SHIPP is a competitive program that offers grants and academic support to Batten University students pursuing credit-bearing internship, research, or study away experiences during the summer. Participants receive funding and mentored instruction to help make the most of their summer experience.

Applications are accepted each spring semester. Funding is awarded on a competitive basis across three experience types:

SHIPP Benefits

  • Internship grants up to $1,000
  • Research grants up to $1,000
  • Study away course grants up to $1,500
  • Individualized faculty mentoring

Eligible Experience Types

Internships — Credit-bearing internship placements in your field, supported by career advising and employer connections through the Career Development program.

Study Away — Domestic and international immersive learning experiences, including Batten-led study away courses and independent study abroad programs arranged through the Office of Global Engagement.

Undergraduate Research — Faculty-mentored summer research projects. Students work closely with a faculty mentor throughout the experience and receive support from the Undergraduate Research Program.
