Graduate Dual Degrees

Batten University partners with leading universities and professional schools to offer dual degree, guaranteed, early, and priority admission programs. These agreements allow students to build connections with top graduate programs while completing their undergraduate degree — and in some cases, begin graduate coursework before they leave Batten.

Environment

Chatham University — Falk School of Sustainability and the Environment

Batten University students who meet the program criteria may apply for Priority Admission to the Falk School of Sustainability and the Environment. Combined MBA tracks are available to students who have completed the appropriate business prerequisites.

Duke University — Nicholas School of the Environment

The Cooperative College Program allows students to proceed directly from three years of undergraduate study at Batten University to two years at Duke University's Nicholas School, completing both a Bachelor's degree and a graduate degree in five years.

William & Mary — Virginia Institute of Marine Science

Preferred Admission

This partnership promotes enrollment of graduating Batten Honors College students in the Master of Arts in Marine Science program at VIMS. One reserved seat per year — including an annual scholarship — is available to a BHC graduate who meets admission criteria.

The Pre-Engineering Program offers students guaranteed admission to ODU's Master of Science in Engineering. Starting in their second or third year, students take one or two engineering courses per semester at ODU while still enrolled at Batten University, then enter the one-year graduate program after graduation.

Batten University's extensive partnership with EVMS gives students access to early admission and early assurance pathways across a wide range of health professions programs. Qualified students apply during their sophomore or junior year and must continue to meet program requirements to maintain eligibility.

Sentara College of Health Sciences

Guaranteed Admission
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) — Master's Entry into Nursing Practice

Batten University students from any major who have completed the appropriate prerequisite courses may apply for guaranteed admission to Sentara's Entry to Nursing Practice Master's program, allowing students to simultaneously earn nursing certification and a Master's degree. Up to two Batten University students per year may receive guaranteed admission; additional students may apply through the standard track.

Shenandoah University — Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy

Priority Admission

  • PharmD + MBA — Dual Degree 3+4

Up to five Batten University students per year receive priority status for Shenandoah's pharmacy programs. Students complete three years at Batten University before entering the PharmD program, earning both a Bachelor's degree from Batten and a PharmD — or PharmD and MBA — from Shenandoah.

Washington University in St. Louis — School of Medicine

This partnership with one of the nation's top-ranked Occupational Therapy programs allows students to earn a Bachelor's degree from Batten University and a graduate OT degree from Washington University in St. Louis in five or six years.

University of Virginia — Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy

This partnership promotes enrollment of graduating Batten Honors College students in UVA's Master of Public Policy program. One seat per year — including an annual fellowship — is reserved for a BHC graduate who meets admission criteria.

Theology

Boston University — School of Theology (STH)

Guaranteed Admission
  • Master of Divinity (MDiv)
  • Master of Theological Studies (MTS)

This agreement guarantees admission — with scholarship consideration — to Boston University's School of Theology. To be eligible, students must maintain continuous enrollment, meet GPA requirements, and complete at least three religious studies or religiously-related courses. Eligible students must submit a Letter of Interest and complete the STH application by the priority deadline.

Duke University — Duke Divinity School

Early Admission

These programs streamline admission — with scholarship opportunities — to Duke Divinity School. Students who meet eligibility requirements may apply for an early admissions decision at Duke.

Emory University — Candler School of Theology

Guaranteed Admission

  • Master of Religious Leadership (MRL)

This agreement guarantees admission — with scholarship opportunities — to Candler School of Theology programs. To be eligible, Batten University graduates must meet Candler's admission requirements and have completed courses in Religious Studies, or religiously-themed courses in History or Philosophy.

United Theological Seminary

The Cooperative College Program coordinates undergraduate study at Batten University with graduate divinity education at United Theological Seminary. Qualified students can complete a Bachelor's degree at Batten and a Master of Divinity at United in five years.
